Inaresto ng National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) ang dalawang suspek na sinasabing binabayaran ng P6-milyong halaga ng donasyon para sa mga biktima ng super typhoon Yolanda noong 2013,lunes ng hating gabi.
Sina Engr. Si Desiderio Estinozo at Nestro Lehetemas ay naaresto sa Malate, Maynila ng mga miyembro ng Anti-Fraud Division ng NBI.
“I commend the efforts exerted by our NBI agents involved in this case for their arrests of the respondents. Now we can make the wheels of justice move faster,” pahayag ni Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II.
“There is no place in our society for people who take advantage of the sufferings of others. To make money out of a calamity is very deplorable and should not be tolerated. These alleged perpetrators will be prosecuted to the full extent of our laws,” dagdag ni Aguirre.
Ang dalawang suspek ay pinaghihinalaang nagtratrabaho sa ilalim ng dating DILG secretary Mar Roxas bilang mga konsultant, at may access sa mga dokumento ng relief at mga dokumento sa Yolanda.
Nagkakahalagang 100,000 Euros o P6 milyon pesos na ibinulsa diumano ng mga suspek sa pamamagitan ng pag-hack sa mga email address ng mga partido at pagpapalit ng pangalan sa bangko at pag-aayos ng pondo nito.
Ang nasabing pondo ay sa Philippine Partnership para sa Pagpapaunlad ng Human Resources sa Rural Areas o PhilDHRRA at Espanyol na non-government organization Fundacion InteRed.
