In his speech at the Federalism Summit in Pili, Camarines Sur on Tuesday afternoon,President Rodrigo Duterte is hurrying business tycoon Lucio Tan to pay for his government tax debt.
Duterte said the government still has no pallet from the P6 billion peso commitment to be paid by the entrepreneur from unpaid taxes on the use of the runway of his aircraft at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).
President threatened that when a businessman refuses to pay tax breaks he will circumvent it.
Duterte said that if some government officials was afraid of Tan because of the possibility to fund destabilization, he said he did not fear it.
“Kaya — Lucio Tan, six billion, noon pa ‘yan. Walang kolekta-kolekta. Walang bayad-bayad. Kasi matakot na mag-enforce ang ano diyan, mayor o — kasi ‘pag ginalaw mo, gastusan ka raw ng destabilization. “Ako, ‘di mas mabuti mag-contribute siya doon. Kasi kung may maniwala pa na sundalo sa akin, sila — siya ang unahin ko. Either magbayad ka or … tuliin kita uli… bayad,” President Duterte statement

It could remembered in the past months, the businessman has expressed willingness to pay the government’s arrears after President Duterte’s ten-day ultimatum was issued.
President Duterte recounted that during the campaign period, several days before the election offered Tan’s funds but he denied it because he was certain he would ask for a favor from the government in exchange for a cash offer.
“Alam mo, two days before the election, Lucio Tan was in Davao City. He tried to have an audience with me to give me the money.he said
Hindi ko tinanggap kasi alam ko balang araw, hihiritan kita. And all others,” Duterte added
