MANILA– Senator Sherwin Gatchalian on Monday said purchasing locally made goods helps sustain jobs and accelerate the country's economic recovery as the nation observes Made in the Philippines Products Week.

Gatchalian said the celebration underscores Filipino ingenuity, talent, and resilience, while ensuring that communities benefit directly from stronger local enterprises.

"Bawat biling lokal, trabaho at kabuhayan ang kapital. Kaya suportahan natin ang mga lokal na produkto dahil ito rin ay pamumuhunan sa mga pangarap at kabuhayan ng ating kapwa Pilipino(Every local purchase is an investment in jobs and livelihoods. Supporting local products is also an investment in the dreams and future of our fellow Filipinos)," he said in a statement.

Made in the Philippines Products Week is observed annually from Aug. 17 to 23 under Republic Act 3880, which seeks to promote Filipino-made goods and strengthen the local manufacturing sector.

Meanwhile, the OTOP (One Town, One Product) Philippines Act, enacted in 2022, institutionalizes the government's flagship program that encourages micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) to develop products or services rooted in local culture, resources, and competitive advantage.

Gatchalian said both initiatives aim to support entrepreneurship, generate sustainable jobs, and foster national pride in local products, which are vital to post-pandemic growth.(PNA)
