There were four policemen being killed in a rebel ambush on Wednesday in Barangay Sibayan, Bansalan, Davao del Sur. The police officers were responding to a murder happened in the area, when they were attacked by suspected members of the New People’s Army (NPA) rebels.
The slain policemen were PO1 Rolly Benelayo, PO1 Joe Narvaza, PO1 Saro Mangutara all members of Bansalan Municipal Police Station, and PO3 Jayden May Rabor, a member of the Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) in Digos City.
PO3 Allen Arnado was wounded and brought to a nearby hospital for treatment.
According to Chief Superintendent Marcelo Morales, regional director for administration: “Mga high-powered firearms ang ginamit sa insidente, at wala namang ibang makagagawa nito kundi ang NPA lamang, but still, ongoing pa rin ang investigation para matumbok natin na NPA talaga ang gumawa.
Chief Inspector Adrian Antonio, Bansalan police chief said PO3 Arnado fell from the police vehicle just before the explosion, thus he survived the ambush.
After the landmine exploded, the rebels then shot the police officers inside the vehicle before running off with an M16 Armalite rifle including the slain policemen’s boots. Members of the Philippine Army are now hunting the rebels.
