During his visit he promised to the prisoners that he’s going to improve the facilities of their prison.
Despite of being offended to criminals, evidently President Rodrigo Duterte was touched by the scenario of the prisoners that he visited and he promised to give them a tv so they’d not be bored whereas serving their time inside Camp Bagong Diwa.
He said he would want every prison cell to have television sets by the end of the month as a form of recreation.
“Nakakaawa naman ‘yung mga preso, walang libangan,” he said adding that he would help prisoners to sell their handicrafts to earn money for their families even if they are in prison.
“Bilihin ko siguro at pabisitahin ko ‘yung DSWD para how we can market their products, para kikita sila and of course, a program sa follow-up to see whether their children are studying still or not,” he said.
Duterte talked to them and asked their problems inside the prison. Some of them informed the President that their only hobby is playing chess, but their chessboard was already broke.
Duterte promised that he’s going to give them a new chessboard. He also vowed to help the detainees including a prisoner from Cebu who cannot support his six children because of being detained.
“Mag iwan ako ng number, gusto ko ay yung ating relasyon personal,” President Duterte said. “Kagaya mo, anim ang anak, p**** i** paano yan, pag hindi na mapag aral ang mga bata, mas lalaki ang problema sa mundong ito,” Duterte added.
The President said that he can call the number that he gave so a social worker can visit his children and help them.
Meanwhile Duterte made the assessment after visiting several jails inside the BJMP,he is satisfied with the way the BJMP is running its prison facilities.
“Gusto ko kayong unahin sa gobyerno. So you’ll have, I say, the most modern equipment. You will have it,” he said.
“Okay ang sitwasyon, they are comfortable, clean. I’m satisfied by the way it is being run by the BJMP,” he added.
