A couple named Ireneu Cruz, a farmer and Jucicleide Silva in Concei ao de Coit, Brazil have been married for two decades now but they have only been blessed with sons – 13 sons for that matter. They vowed to continue making babies until they have a daughter. Their oldest son is 18-year old and the youngest is one-month old.
They had high hopes that the thirteenth baby would be a girl, being the “lucky one.” But, when the midwife announced that it was a boy, they knew then that they just have to try again.
They also had another agreement – the husband names the boys and the mother names the girls.
According to the husband: “I’ve always admired players like Rivaldo, Roberto Carlos, Ronaldinho and Robinho.”
“All the best footballers seemed to have a name beginning with R, so as more and more boys came along, I decided to celebrate South American football by naming my sons after the players I liked.”
The couple’s children were named as follows: Robson, 18; Reinan, 17; Rauan, 15; Rubens, 14; Rivaldo, 13; Ruan, 12; Ramon, 10; Rincon, 9; Riquelme, 7; Ramires, 5; Railson, 3; and Rafael, 2. The youngest boy was named “Ronaldo.”
The father dreams that at least one of his boys would indeed become a football star playing for Brazil. In fact, he referees football games between his sons and the village football team every weekend.
