LAOAG CITY – Malacañang has declared Sept. 11, 2025 as a special non-working day in Ilocos Norte to mark the 108th birth anniversary of the late former president Ferdinand E. Marcos Sr.

Executive Secretary Lucas Bersamin, in signing Proclamation No. 1010 on Sept. 3, said this is to give the people of Ilocos Norte "full opportunity to participate in the occasion and enjoy the celebration."

Marcos Sr., father of incumbent President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., was born on Sept. 11, 1917 in Sarrat, Ilocos Norte and served as the 10th president of the Philippines.

For his birth anniversary this year, the provincial government and other local government units and agencies in Ilocos Norte have prepared a series of events to be conducted in various parts of the province.

Like in the previous years, a "natnateng" cook-off showcasing local vegetable dishes and other Ilocano cuisine will be held in Batac City.

Medical equipment will also be distributed at the Imelda Cultural Center, also in Batac City, during the day.

Meanwhile, a thanksgiving Mass and wreath-laying ceremony will be conducted in Sarrat town and in Batac, where the two Marcos Sr. monuments are located.

On Sept. 12, a literary and arts competition featuring singing, speech choir, and graphic art will be held at Robinsons Mall in San Nicolas town. This will be followed by a job fair where an estimated 1,300 job vacancies will be offered by local employers.

An evening concert featuring local pop-rock band Nobita will culminate the celebration at the Laoag City Centennial Arena on Sept. 13. (PNA)
