LA TRINIDAD, Benguet — Residents and vegetable traders in the capital town of Benguet must brace for heavier traffic and consider alternate routes as construction along the national highway begins.
La Trinidad police chief Col. Zacarias Dausen advised commuters and motorists to avoid the main road, particularly the stretch at Kilometer 6 near the Benguet State University police outpost, where traffic congestion is expected.
"For those traveling to and from Baguio City and northern Benguet, we recommend using the Ambiong-Tawang Road, Shilan-Beckel Road, and Tam-awan-Longlong-Puguis Roads to ease traffic flow," Dausen said in a media interview on Monday.
He also appealed for motorists' patience and urged them to plan their trips accordingly.
The project being undertaken by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) First District is expected to be completed by May 2026, according to Mayor Roderick Awingan.
The construction site covers Kilometers 5 and 6, an area that houses major institutions such as Benguet State University, Benguet General Hospital, the municipal hall, and several government and private-run vegetable trading posts that supply to markets nationwide. (PNA)
