ROME – Italian designer Giorgio Armani has died at the age of 91, his fashion house announced Thursday.

In a statement, Armani's company said he passed away peacefully surrounded by his loved ones.

His body will lie in state at Milan's Armani/Teatro on Saturday and Sunday to allow the public to pay their respects.

A private funeral will follow, in line with his wishes.

The fashion house described Armani as its "founder, creator, and tireless driving force," noting that he worked until his final days and built a vision that extended beyond clothing to "every aspect of living."

"Over the years, Giorgio Armani created a vision that extended to every aspect of living, anticipating the times with extraordinary clarity and pragmatism," the statement said. (ANSA)
