MANILA — The Department of Agriculture–Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (DA-DRRM) Operations Center assured Monday that necessary aid has been prepositioned for farmers and fishers who may be affected by inclement weather.

The agency made the statement considering the combined effects of Tropical Depression Jacinto, a low-pressure area (LPA), and the southwest monsoon or "habagat."

In Bulletin No. 4, the DA-DRRM said agricultural inputs are on standby in regional field offices, including rice, corn, and high-value crop seeds; drugs and biologics for livestock and poultry; and fish stocks with necessary paraphernalia.

So far, 124,094 bags of rice, 83,761 bags of corn, and 14,136 bags of vegetable seeds have been readied.

The National Food Authority (NFA), meanwhile, has 2,392,270 bags of rice stocks available for issuance to local government units (LGUs) and other disaster relief agencies.

In addition, registered farmers who will be affected may access the Survival and Recovery loan program under the Agricultural Credit Policy Council (ACPC), worth PHP25,000 with no interest and payable in three years; indemnification under the Philippine Crop Insurance Corporation; and the quick response fund for rehabilitation and recovery.

The DA-DRRM said all regional operations centers nationwide have been activated and continue to monitor commodity prices and supply movement.

It also warned of scattered rains and thunderstorms in Aurora, Bulacan, Quezon, Rizal, and the Bicol Region due to the LPA, as well as in Metro Manila, Central Luzon, Calabarzon, Mimaropa, and the Visayas due to habagat. (PNA)
