MANILA – Bureau of Customs Commissioner Ariel Nepomuceno on Wednesday met with the Department of Justice (DOJ) Wednesday to craft a plan of action in running after and prosecuting agricultural smugglers.

"Gusto natin palakasin 'yung pagtutulungan ng Department of Justice at ng BOC upang sa lahat ng kaso na isasampa natin laban sa mga smugglers ay magiging matibay (We want to strengthen the cooperation between the DOJ and the BOC to ensure that all cases filed against smugglers are strong)," Nepomuceno told reporters after his meeting with Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla.

"So, natutuwa kami at nagpapasalamat kay Sec. Remulla na talagang gusto n'ya rin naman magkaroon ng institutionalized partnership ang BOC at ang DOJ lalo't lalo na doon sa mga kaso ng agricultural smuggling (We are thankful to Sec. Remulla and he also wants to have an institutionalized partnership between the BOC and the DOJ, particularly those involving agricultural smuggling)."

Nepomuceno said among the issues discussed in the meeting is the creation of a DOJ-BOC working group that will prioritize cases, prepare the documents, and file the cases.

"Gusto natin sa panahon ni Pangulong Bongbong Marcos ay talagang makapagpakulong tayo ng mga nagkaroon sa paglabag sa batas hinggil dito sa agrikultura natin (Under the administration of President Marcos, we want persons responsible in agricultural smuggling behind bars)," he said. (PNA)
