BATANGAS CITY – The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology (BJMP) and the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) on Friday carried out a joint "greyhound operation" at the Brooke's Point District Jail to ensure the facility remains free of illegal items.
Dubbed "Oplan Linis Piitan", the surprise inspection formed part of the BJMP's continuing campaign to rid jails of contraband such as drugs, firearms, and unauthorized communication devices.
Jail Officer 3 Joefrie Anglo, BJMP Mimaropa regional information officer, said the operation yielded no prohibited items – a sign that strict safeguards inside the district jail are working.
"The absence of contraband affirms our personnel's vigilance and commitment to maintaining a secure, drug-free facility," Anglo said in a statement.
Personnel from the Brooke's Point Municipal Fire Station assisted in the inspection, which included random checks of cells and common areas.
Brooke's Point District Jail currently houses 279 persons deprived of liberty (PDLs) – 268 men and 11 women – who are undergoing rehabilitation programs while awaiting the resolution of their cases.
The BJMP regularly conducts coordinated Greyhound Operations nationwide as part of its mandate to ensure the safety of detainees and the integrity of jail facilities. (PR)
