MANILA – A 43-year-old South African was arrested Saturday night at Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA) Terminal 3 in Pasay City after authorities found in his luggage seven kilos of suspected shabu worth PHP47.6 million.
In a press release Sunday, the suspect, identified only as "Antonie," arrived at around 7:30 p.m. on board Cathay Airways Flight CX 748 from Hong Kong.
Police seized about 7,000 grams of shabu from the suspect's luggage, according to Philippine National Police-Drug Enforcement Group (PDEG) report.
All confiscated evidence have been turned over to the PDEA Laboratory Service for qualitative and quantitative examination and proper disposition.
The arrest was carried out in coordination with the NAIA Inter-Agency Drug Interdiction Task Group, of which the PDEG is a member.
The suspect is facing charges of violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, which prohibits the importation of dangerous drugs.
The crime is punishable by life imprisonment and a fine of up to PHP10 million, depending on the weight and classification of the seized drugs. (PNA)
