MANILA – The Quezon City government has expressed full support for the appointment of Secretary Vince Dizon as the new head of the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH).
In a statement on Sunday evening, the city government expressed confidence in Dizon's ability to deliver reforms, lauding his track record as public servant who brought "transformative results" in his previous national roles.
"We are confident that under his stewardship, the DPWH will further embody transparency, accountability, and efficiency in the implementation of public infrastructure," it said.
"In particular, we trust that Secretary Dizon will champion strategic, science-based, and community-driven solutions to the persistent problem of flooding, including the adoption and scaling of Quezon City's Drainage Master Plan," it added.
It also expressed hope that Dizon would deliver reforms and be able to address the persistent problem of urban flooding that severely affects the city, especially during periods of heavy rain.
Such reforms, it said, "are crucial in ensuring that every peso of public funds is maximized for infrastructure that safeguards lives, protects property, and builds resilience in the face of climate change."
The city government assured Dizon of its full support and active cooperation in implementing infrastructure projects that are safer, more inclusive, and climate-resilient.
Before becoming DPWH secretary, Dizon served as president and chief executive officer of the Bases Conversion and Development Authority (BCDA), testing czar during the Covid-19 pandemic, and, most recently, as secretary of the Department of Transportation (DOTr).
He replaced Manuel Bonoan, who resigned as DPWH secretary amid the ongoing investigations into anomalous flood control projects involving the department. (PNA)
