Magnitude 5.1 Batangas quake generates 14 aftershocks

MANILA – The magnitude 5.1 earthquake that jolted Batangas early Wednesday generated 14 aftershocks as of 6 a.m., the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said.

Two of the aftershocks were plotted or located, and both had a magnitude of 1.2.

The earthquake struck 2 km. southwest of Calaca town at 12:43 a.m.

Phivolcs earlier reported it as magnitude 4.8 and later updated it to 5.1.

Intensity V was felt in Calaca; Intensity IV in Alitagtag, and Cuenca, Batangas; City of Tagaytay, Cavite.

Several towns in Cavite and Laguna, as well as some areas in Metro Manila also felt the earthquake.

Phivolcs said both aftershocks and damage are expected. (PNA)
