LEGAZPI CITY – A total of 95 families from Guinobatan, Albay are taking temporary shelter in an evacuation center due to lahar flows caused by continuous rains from a low pressure area.

Guinobatan Mayor Gemma Ongoco said Tuesday that the affected families are from Barangay Masarawag, specifically in Purok 4, 5, 6, and 8, which are located near the foot of Mayon Volcano.

"The evacuated families are now staying in the campus of Guinobatan Community College. We have recorded 643 families affected by the flash floods, and there are still more evacuating today, so the situation is ongoing. This morning, they are doing okay; we (the local government unit) prepared breakfast for them, and the Department of Social Welfare and Development in Bicol (DSWD-5) has also provided family food packs for the affected families," Ongoco said in an interview.

Other barangays in the area continue to be monitored, particularly those at risk of flooding, lahar, flash floods, and landslides.

Meanwhile, there is a ready stockpile and prepositioned goods in the region's six provinces.

As of Tuesday, a total of PHP176.11 million worth of non-food and food items is available in Bicol.

As of 8 a.m., the LPA has a "medium" chance of developing into a tropical depression within the next 24 hours, according to the weather bureau. It was last tracked over the coastal waters of Siruma, Camarines Sur. (PNA)
