De Lima, gagawaran ng “Prize for Freedom” Highest Human Rights Award ng Liberal International(LI)

Liberal International (LI) will award their highest human rights award, the “Prize for Freedom” to Sen. Leila de Lima.

At the 199th Annual Executive meeting in Johannesburg, South Africa, politicians voted from all over the world and De Lima chose their award.

This is because De Lima has continued to fight for “rule of law” as well as the dignity of the people even though he is still in prison.

The LI called De Lima a “flag-bearer” of human rights in the Philippines, which serves as a good example for human rights defenders

They also believes the human rights committee Marku Loning believes De Lima should immediately release from pre-trial detention.

Liberal International (LI) gives the Prize for Freedom individuals who are unique to those who contribute to human rights and political freedom.

De Lima is the second Filipino to receive the award since former President Corazon Aquino, in 1987. It was conferred on Aquino for his human rights defenses during the Marcos administration, and became president after the EDSA people power revolution.

According to De Lima, she is pleased that she was chosen to be awarded the same as what was received by former President Cory Aquino.

Delima said the award given to her use as inspiration to continue the fight against human rights abuses.
