Caviteña shares her unfortunate encounter with CHR after she seek help from them: “They do deserve the 1k budget”

Amid the ₱1,000 budget issue faced by Commission on Human Rights, a Caviteña Netizen shared how their complaints about human rights violations submitted to the office of Chito Gascon was ignored several times.

According to the letter of Ms. Lourdes De Las Cagigas that posted by Netizen Jenifer Aquino, there are several detainees in Camp Bagong Diwa who were innocent and only imprisoned because of the order of former Department of Justice secretary and now Senator Leila De Lima.

De Las Cagigas said that they received several reports of human rights violation inside the detention center so they asked the Commission on Human Rights for help, unfortunately their complaints were ignored several times.

The Netizen claimed that the prisoners that they helped were arrested illegally with no due process and their only basis to arrest the prisoners was the signature of De Lima.

Ms. De Las Cagigas also filed several complaints of human rights of women and children violated, but after months of waiting, nothing happened.

She also followed up the case to Attorney Twyla Rubin of CHR, but as of writing, there were still no updates about the complaint of the angry Netizen. Senator Panfilo Lacson, the sponsor of the Commission on Human Rights budget in the senate was also slammed by De Las Cagigas on her letter.

She claimed that several family members of the detainees asked some help to Sen. Lacson office complaining that they were forced to undergo a strip search before they were allowed to visit their love ones inside the Camp Bagong Diwa, a clear violation to their human rights.

Ms De Las Cagigas said that Sen. Lacson did nothing to the complaint of the family. The Netizen also narrated how a woman child contracted meningitis that made them incurred a ₱3.2-M hospital bill, they couldn’t pay it because her husband was illegally detained.

They asked Sen. Lacson for help, but they were also ignored according to De Las Cagigas. Fortunately, they asked for the Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) help and the child was released from the hospital despite of the ₱3.2-M hospital bill.

Ms De Las Cagigas also narrated how a warden in Camp Bagong Diwa was allegedly removed from his position because of trying to recover the items confiscated by the members of PNP from the detainees.

According to her, the warden successfully secured the ‘confiscated’ items back from the raiding team, but after that he was allegedly removed by a Commissioner.

De Las Cagigas informed the netizen that most of the detainees of Camp Bagong Diwa are crimeless. She also asked where was the CHR, Media, International Community, Agnes Callamard, UN and other international group who were slammed the current administration while they ignored the human rights violation committed during the past administrations.
