President Rodrigo Duterte, who is pushing for revival of death penalty, promised Saturday to hang a man tagged in the rape-slay of a toddler in Bacoor, Cavite if he is proven guilty.
The man was arrested Saturday for allegedly raping and killing.
8-year-old Romelinda Gardon was last seen when she went out to buy snacks for her cousin at 8 p.m. on October 4. Romelinda’s family immediately filed a missing person case after she didn’t come home for quite some time. She was found dead in a creek in Sitio Wawa in Barangay Zapote 5 in Bacoor, Cavite the following day.
According to Bacoor police chief. Superintendent Christoper Olazo, Romelinda was raped before she was killed by four men who were high on drugs and alcohol.
The four suspects, identified as Reynaldo Dela Cruz, Rowell Dela Cruz, Jessie Aguilar, and Nico Zamora. Nico and Rowell were both killed following arrest, after the two men fought with police and attempted to take their guns inside the police car.
A certain ‘Mang Ador’ claims to have seen the girl ‘eating’ with the four suspects who were drinking alcohol. He didn’t see anything wrong with how the girl was treated during the drinking session, and so he walked away without alerting authorities. He was shocked to hear news about the girl being raped and killed the following day. Another witness who wishes to remain anonymous, s/he saw the four men throw the girl into the river.
Though Romelinda’s parents are devastated by their loss, they are glad that justice was immediately served against the said suspects.
