Pangilinan: Duterte permit nationwide protest? ”Kataka-taka,”

Senator Kiko Pangilinan is puzzled by the transfer of President Rodrigo Duterte declaring this 12 months’s 45th commemoration of martial legislation as National Day of Protest.

“Actually, kataka-taka,” Pangilinan stated on Thursday when requested about his view on the President’s motion to permit nationwide protest actions on September 21, the day when then President Ferdinand Marcos Sr., declared martial legislation in 1972.

“Kaya nga mayroong mga pagpoprotesta ngayon dahil hindi maganda ang ilang mga naging kilos at hakbang ng administrasyon na ito. So, hindi ko alam, dapat siguro sa kanya ibato ‘yung tanong,” he stated Pangilinan, nonetheless, denounced the spate of alleged abstract killings, human rights violations and the current huge drug smuggling under President Duterte’s watch.

He added, “As far as we’re concerned, itong patuloy na pagyurak sa karapatang pantao, ang kawalan ng katapusan dito sa araw-araw na patayan at :yung pagpuslit pati ng P6.5 billion na shabu. Eh, lahat ng ito ay dapat tutulan.”

“Dapat i-protesta, dapat tuligsain at ‘yun ang ginagawa ng iba’t ibang mga grupo sa ngayon sa araw na ito,” stated Pangilinan, Liberal Party president and a member of the Senate minority bloc.
