On September 17, after the five hour long firefight between the Armed Forces of the Philippines and Maute Group, the terrorists were forced to abandon the historic Bato Mosque in Marawi, one of the 3 enemy strongholds.
The government forces also rescued two hostages including Catholic Priest Terisoto “Chito” Suganob who became a hostage of the Maute Terrorists for almost four months.
The other hostage was identified as Lordvin Ocopio, a teacher of Dansalan College in Marawi. Maute Terrorists defeat in the battle of Bato Mosque was a sign that the Marawi City is going to be liberated soon.
But there’s a heartbreaking story behind this successful mission. Corporal Jaime Invento, a member of the Scout Ranger was killed during their assault in Bato Mosque and his story was shared by Scout Ranger Books Facebook fan page.
Before they started the mission, Invento gave a combat boots to his friend who’s a birthday celebrant yesterday. But during the mission, Corporal Invento was fatally hit by a bullet in his neck that killed him immediately.
According to the post of Scout Ranger Books, the baby of Corporal Invento also died three hours after the Scout Ranger’s death after his wife, who’s pregnant got informed about the sad news.
Invento’s wife became so stressed after she knew the sacrifice did by her husband for the country which resulted to the early birth of their baby. After the forced labor, Corporal Invento’s baby died three hours after his death.
