Sara for 2020 President?Duterte sees his daughter Inday Sara as possible successor when his term ends.

Malacañang cleared on Monday that President Rodrigo Duterte III is not trying to hold power after saying he sees his daughter, Davao City Mayor Inday Sara Duterte as his possible successor when his term ends on 2020. 

In a Philippine Star report, the President was quoted saying, “I couldn’t find any other better candidate than Sara to become the next president,”

According to Presidential spokesperson Ernesto Abella, the statement does not mean Duterte wants to assume power but merely stating that he simply trust his daughter Sara,

“I think you’re making a breathtaking leap by assuming that he wants power when he says that his daughter is somebody that he trusts,” Abella said. 

Abella added that the President’s statement could not be considered as an official position, “I think that the President is just being very, very pragmatic, you know. 

It’s not a question of wanting to perpetuate power but ensuring that whatever gains he has — whatever gains that we have made, the administration may have made will be preserved by someone that he actually trusts.” 
The Presidential spokesperson also said that the public should not only see Sara as a presidential daughter but also an individual who can lead.
“I think you have to consider her as an independent personality and not just his daughter. Para bang she is an effective person and Mayor and politician who happens to be his daughter,” Abella added. 

Last Friday, President Duterte said these statements in a dinner at Matina Enclave Residences emphasizing that his daughter is a strong woman and also a lawyer like him, so she is well-versed with the law. 

“And one thing about her is she is not a bigot,” the President added. 

He also recalled one incident when Sara scrutinized a particular project that he first approved while he was still the mayor of Davao City proving that the lady can lead without bias.
