Sotto, even as formal complaint was lodged in Pacquiao’s office through his office chief of staff Krista Gem Mercado, opted to relay the matter to his colleague to call the attention of the apparent overzealous bodyguard.
Allegedly, the bodyguard, whom Sotto’s staff, Beverly Anne Sotto identified as a certain Noel Torrillo, went overboard in “securing” Pacquiao who was then about to leave the Senate elevator.
Beverly happened to be in the same VIP elevator which is exclusive only for senators and their staff, coming from the 6th floor, when Pacquiao’s “team” boarded on the 5th floor going to the second floor where the plenary session hall is located.
“As soon as the doors opened, the said man immediately moved backward and raised his right arm at 90-degree angle, effectively fencing me in.
He was so close bodily and slightly bent at the waist that his buttocks was touching my stomach and the heels of his shoes were stepping on the tips of my open-toed shoes,”
Beverly mentioned in her letter.
“In my 11 years working in the Senate and six years in local government, this is the first time I encountered such abuse and manhandling from anyone and to think that this mistreatment happened in the VIP elevator of the Philippine Senate is totally unacceptable. I am so insulted, offended and disgusted by the actions of the said bodyguard that I am still very emotional up to now,” she added.
“Sinumbong ko kay Pacquiao. Sabi ko pagalitan mo na lang. Sabi eh hindi, hindi pwedeng pagalitan ko ito, sabi nya uumbagin ko ito. Sinikmuraan. Maghapon daw na hindi nakakain. Ayun nakatikim,” Sotto informed reporters in an interview.
Pacquiao has not apologized to Sotto’s workers nor defined why his bodyguard went overboard in defending him.
There can also be no proof that Pacquiao punished his bodyguard aside from his unverified story to Sotto.
