A little boy named Chen was diagnosed when he was 5 with a malignant tumor. His mother, Zhou Lu suffered from a kidney disease just months after his son’s diagnosis.
The two battled in the hospital for two years. Zhou required dialysis while his son needed round-the-clock care. The doctors thought that Chen would recover, however, his cancer eventually returned and grew more aggressive.
Chen’s disease had blinded and paralyzed him eventually. Zou tried her best to remain strong despite what was happening.
But Zhou’s kidney disease had begun to weaken her. It became clear that a kidney transplant would be her only hope.
The doctors talked to Zhou’s mother and explained her situation that Chen will not survive but he can donate his kidney to Zhou. Zhou refused to the plan. When Chen found out his mother’s situation, he demanded his mother to take his kidney.
“Mom, I want to save your life,” Chen begged.
Zhou eventually agreed on the operation knowing that his son will be a part of her. Chen died days after the agreement was made. Doctors rushed him to the operating theater where they planned to remove his kidneys and liver.
The medical team took a moment of silence to pray for the little boy before beginning the procedure. They then began the operation. Chen’s tissue was a perfect match, and Zhou made a full recoveryDoctors said it was a miracle.
But Zhou’s was not the only life changed by little Chen: His right kidney went to a 21-year-old woman, and his liver was given to a 27-year-old man.
